Welcome to the Angoon Airport Environmental Impact Statement Website
A message from Leslie Grey, Angoon Airport EIS Project Manager
FAA Alaskan Region, Airports Division
The most valuable of all talents is that of never using two words when one will do -
Thomas Jefferson
On behalf of our project team, I would like welcome you to the Angoon Airport Environmental Impact Statement Website.
We have recently made changes to the appearance and content of our site, for two reasons. The first reason is to share
newly available information on scientific studies and our teams outreach this year to the Angoon community. Sharing
new information with the public is of course the purpose of this Website, but the
way information is shared is
very important to me and to this project.
This brings me to the second reason for our Website update - to ensure that the information it contains is truly
meaningful and understandable to those who use it. One of the fundamental goals of my EIS team is to present information
in plain language as often as possible. Using plain language is not as simple as it may sound - it asks the writers of our
studies and documents to visualize the reader as they write, and consider how best to communicate the information and ideas
that they need to share. Sometimes this means that more pictures than numbers and words are used to show facts, relationships,
and concepts.
While we believe that using plain language to communicate complex information is the "right thing to do," it is also the
law. Last year President Obama signed the Plain Writing Act of 2010, requiring agencies to write in plain language whenever
possible. The FAA has its own regulations promoting plain language, and we are proud to carry these mandates forward in the
Angoon Airport EIS.
The menu to the left of this letter has been re-organized to help you find the information that interests you most. The first
item on this menu -
About this Project? is designed to walk you through the basic
information that will help you
understand the purpose of the Airport Project itself. If you are a member of the Angoon community or interested in this
unique community, there is a special section called
For the Angoon Community to help us stay connected to the people
closest to the project. If you are interested in seeing the original technical reports developed in the course of this project,
which contain raw data and engineering information, this type of information is provided under the
Technical/Scientific tab.
There are many different kinds of people interested in this project, and we try to communicate with all of you. We truly
welcome suggestions for information or presentation style that will help you get what you need out of our website.
Best wishes,
Leslie
